Shadow

Shadow is a set keyword ability, found in [Magic: The Gathering]]'s Tempest set.

Creatures with shadow can't block or be blocked by creatures without shadow. For example, a 2/2 creature with Shadow can't be blocked by a 3/3 creature without. Unlike flying, this restriction is reciprocal; thus, the 2/2 shadow creature can't block the 3/3 non-shadow creature.

Shadow was mainly distributed in blue (the Thalakos), black (the Dauthi), and white (the Soltari). Green received two cards related to shadow: 'Reality Anchor', which removed shadow from a creature; and 'Heartwood Dryad', which is able to block creatures with shadow. (The Dryad's ability was originally set up like the "Spider" ability for flying; however, thanks to recent rule changes, the wording was changed to allow the Dryad to block creatures without shadow.) Red received two cards related to shadow: Shadowstorm, which dealt damage to shadow creatures; and 'Wall of Diffusion', which like the dryad blocked creatures with shadow. One multicolor card, 'Soltari Guerillas', also had shadow.
