This page documents some basic style guidelines and conventions used on M:TG Archive. Feel free to add or improve on these.

Brand names
  • The first mention should use the full name of the game - Magic: The Gathering. Subsequent references in the same section can use Magic.
  • As above, either form should be italicized (using two single quotes in wiki-markup) whenever the name of the game is used in a sentence.
Set/expansion names
  • Use italics when set names, like Legends, are mentioned in a sentence.
    • The terms Alpha, Beta, and Limited Edition are not italicized because there was never a product sold under those names.
  • In bullet lists or tables, use plain text, but italicize sets which are not yet released.
Card names
  • Use single quotes when card names are mentioned in a sentence, such as 'Black Lotus'.
  • In bullet lists or tables, use plain text without single quotes.
  • You can link card names to Gatherer by using this notation: displayed text. For example, [[Card:Prodigal Sorcerer|Tim]] makes Tim and [[Card:Serra Angel|Serra Angel]] produces Serra Angel.
