Ediciones Martinez Roca Joins Wizards of the Coast¹s(R)
International Group of Partners

Renton, Wash. (June 29, 1995)‹Wizards of the Coast, Inc. is pleased to
announce that Ediciones Martinez Roca, a division of Grupo Editorial
Planeta (a worldwide publishing house), is the newest member to join
Wizards of the Coast¹s group of international partners. Ediciones
Martinez Roca will market and distribute Magic: El Encuentro(TM), Wizards
of the Coast¹s Spanish version of Magic: The Gathering(TM). The company
will support distributors and retailers, provide customer service, and
organize and promote gaming events within Spain.
"They will act as the eyes and ears for Wizards of the Coast in Spain,"
said Emily Smith, Director of Business Development, International
Business. "Ediciones Martinez Roca¹s solid reputation, combined with its
strong customer and marketing support base, will strengthen Wizards of the
Coast¹s presence in the Spanish market. We are very excited that they
have joined our International team."
Magic: El Encuentro will be released to coincide with the 1995 Magic:
The Gathering Spanish National Championships, July 910, in Madrid. An
Italian limited edition of Magic was released in October 1994, followed by
German and French editions in March 1995. The Portuguese edition will
premiere this summer and a Japanese edition is currently in the works.
"We are very happy with the opportunity to collaborate with Wizards of
the Coast, and we hope that Magic: El Encuentro will conquer Spanish
players in the same way that it already has in many other countries," said
Mathilde Sommeregger, Editorial Director for Ediciones Martinez Roca.
Ediciones Martinez Roca publishes a vast and impressive variety of
subject matter, translating numerous well-known authors, including Isaac
Asimov, Stephen King, Danielle Steel, Bertrand Russel, Pierre Louys,
Naguib Mahfuz and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Wizards of the Coast created a worldwide sensation with its release of
Magic: The Gathering in August 1993. To date, more than 500 million Magic
cards have been sold around the world, and the popular trading card game
continues to expand worldwide.
